In Memoriam: Mark Austin

Mark Austin, a Managing Director and Senior Partner based in London and a global leader in BCG’s Consumer practice area sadly passed away on 13th October 2023.

Mark joined BCG in 2017 after a long career at Accenture and Diageo amongst other companies, quickly becoming an invaluable member of the firm. He was a mentor, role model and dearly loved friend to so many colleagues at BCG. Mark was appointed the leader of BCG’s Consumer Practice across the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands in the beginning of 2022.

Mark was passionate about his work, his teams and his clients. He was a recognised industry expert in his field, leading BCG globally on zero-based budgeting (ZBB), a role he took on in 2017. He leaves behind a legacy of deep relationships and friendships inside and outside of BCG.

Christoph Schweizer, BCG’s CEO, said of Mark:

“Mark was a wonderful friend and a caring leader to so many at BCG. He was also a trusted advisor to a broad set of BCG clients.”

“We will all deeply miss his presence. I am forever grateful to have known him in my lifetime.”

Mai-Britt Poulsen, the Managing Partner for BCG across the UK, Netherlands and Belgium, said:

“We are absolutely devasted by the sudden passing of Mark, a much-loved colleague and dear friend of mine. Having worked closely with Mark since 2017, I will miss him dearly.

“Mark was a brilliant person with a larger-than-life personality who cared deeply about his teams and his clients. He could brighten up any room and will a leave a long-lasting impact on all of us here at BCG. This is a sad and solemn moment for our team in the UK, our consumer practice and our ZBB team globally.”

Our thoughts are with his family – his wife Rebecca and their three children – during this difficult time.
