Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)/JICA DXLab, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and BCG collaborated on a pioneering program to reimagine how one of the world’s largest metro systems and the backbone of Delhi’s mobility operates—powered by data, digital, and AI.
The program focuses on creating an ambitious blueprint for data, digital, and AI excellence at DMRC—driving transformative business outcomes and delivering sustainable value. This is enabled by a cloud-based central data foundation and a Data Center of Excellence that will champion digital transformation across the organization. The program includes flagship initiatives such as Predictive Asset Maintenance (PAM) for critical asset categories, which shifts maintenance from a “break & fix” model to a proactive, AI-led approach, reducing failure rates by 25% and maintenance costs by 15%.
With an expansive network of 400+ km catering to 7+ million passenger journeys every day, the initiative aims to revolutionize DMRC and build a next-generation urban transit system. The solutions implemented are designed to be scalable, with a vision to extend this transformation playbook to other metros in India and across the globe—making urban transport smarter, safer, and more sustainable.
