Alan Thomson has more than 30 years of experience working across the oil and gas value chain and more than 20 years with Boston Consulting Group. After having led the global Energy practice for several years, he now leverages his expertise to serve clients globally to transform and unlock their full potential in times of uncertainty, energy transition, and rapid technological change.

Alan has extensive experience and expertise in strategy development, transformation, low carbon energy and decarbonization, organization design, corporate governance, digital transformation, and operations (supply chain and manufacturing). He is a member of BCG’s global Operations practice and applies BCG’s best practices and new thinking for the energy industry.

Alan’s client engagements cover Fortune 500 companies, international and national oil companies, and governments. He has worked closely with senior leadership from the energy and petrochemical industries in Asia-Pacific and North America and has actively supported many of BCG’s global oil and gas client relationships in Europe, the Middle East, and South America.

Prior to joining BCG, he worked for the international energy consulting firm of Purvin & Gertz, Shell Canada, and Novacor Chemicals.
