Malte Clausen, a member of the Climate & Sustainability practice at Boston Consulting Group, is a leading global expert on alternative proteins and food system decarbonization. Over his career, he has advised companies along the entire agri-food value chain on sustainability and decarbonization efforts.

He advises agribusinesses on topics including regenerative agriculture, abating on-farm emissions, and obtaining certifications. For food manufacturers and retailers, the topics he covers include reducing emissions via traceable sourcing and product mix strategies such as commercialization of alternative proteins.

In addition to his work with agri-food companies, Malte has substantial experience advising venture capital and private equity firms on alternative protein investment strategy and transactions. His extensive knowledge of plant-based foods (one of the major alternative protein segments along with fermentation-based and cell-based) is continuously strengthened via his position as Vice Chairman for the Danish Plant-Based Business Association.

Prior to joining BCG in 2022, he ran his own consulting firm. His advisory work during this period focused on decarbonization of food system as well the energy sector. Before that, he led business unit at Vestas Wind Systems, and he has also worked in a range of industries and functional areas at McKinsey & Company.
